Diving into the world of ECC- an introduction In this all-day lecture session aimed at veterinary nurses, Michelle Baker MA BA BSc Cert VN ECC RVN will discuss and introduce 4 areas of emergency and critical care nursing from how to approach the emergency patient in the initial triage, diagnostic and stabilisation phase. Being able to support the patient through monitoring, anaesthesia and analgesia as well as looking at commonly seen emergency presentations and surgical procedures to include cardiovascular, respiratory, haematological, neurological, abdominal soft tissue and more. There will also be discussion on exotics to include birds, reptiles, and small mammals as this is often an area that is overlooked and forgotten about in many practices. The aim of this lecture is to give an insight to the many areas of nursing the emergency patient and to break it down into more manageable chunks. It should provoke your learning into wanting to understand more about the emergency patient and how to quickly recognise and treat a life threating condition.
